Cruise Control!
I am so excited to be going on my first cruise ever, at the end of January.
Never have I thought of myself as a "cruise" type of person, but in this case it's more like a six-day floating rock concert, so I'm up for it. The shore excursions will be okay, but I'm more interested in the bands (Barenaked Ladies are headlining; Great Big Sea and Sarah Harmer are two of my other faves who will be on board).
At least, I hope it will be fun...
But tell me what you think: what is this "cruise" type of person anyway? Are you one? Whether or no, what would be the single critical factor that would make you say WOO LET'S GO! to a cruise? Or would you never set foot on a cruise ship?
Later edit: P.S. - It's this cruise.

If it was going to the Galapagos and I didn't have to pay an arm and a leg and half a year's salary. LOL. I'm afraid of water. It'd take a lot to get me to go on a cruise.
Oh, that sounds like a blast! Especially with BNL! I have been on a cruise once, and I never thought of myself as a cruise person, either - I don't like crowds and I'd rather do my own thing - but once there, the ship is so gosh darn big that it really doesn't seem that crowded, and there is so much to do that you CAN do your own thing. I loved it - had a blast. I'd love to do another one again someday. Have a great time!
I am SO afraid of the ocean! it fascinates me and terrifies me at the same time. I contribute it to the sea life...I watch a LOT of discovery channel~!
OK, I am a HUGE Sarah Harmer fan! Now I'm jealous! I was supposed to be on a cruise this very week, but we had to cancel it when we got pregnant. :lookaround:
That's a WOO LET'S GO! for me. I love the water. I have no idea about the rest of it, but if I get to be on a boat, I'm happy. Good for you!
Hi! I used to say I'd never be interested in a cruise unless it was to Alaska. Then guess what, my husband took me on a cruise to Alaska to celebrate our 25th anniversary. We really enjoyed it! Then we also did a land tour in Alaska. Now that I have done one I think I will try another one someday. A page that really helped me in planning was http://www.cruisecritic.com, so check that out. Have fun! Christy
It sounds like great fun !! But now you need to change your header... instead of flying the world, you're cruising the world.
Hmmm, don't know, but maybe if U2 was sponsoring a cruise to anyplace I'd be tempted.........
LOL, the fact that you didn't say WHERE your going, certainly IS a dead giveaway that you are most interested in the concerts, alright! But, do tell. Where ya goin'?
I have been on one cruise, in 1995, and only because it was totally free. Hubby won the trip from his company, but his clients and spouses were there, so it was work, too. I really enjoyed it. I managed not to get seasick. Let's see, the ports of call were Cozumel, Cancun, Jamaica, and I am drawing a blank on the others! I really wasn't expecting to like it all that well, but it was a good time!
Details, woman!!! :giggle:

Hello dahlink!
Am I cruise type of person? Oh Lordy, No. I really strive to be optomistic, but facts show that those ships can sink, and if they don't sink, there is a deadly strain of cruise flu virus floating around them. Blech. I'm not going.
I know I sound like a negative nelly, but dang honey, watch the news. I only wish you the best of times, and it very well could be.
Lalala,
Cindy
I'd go. I'm always up for adventures.
Hmm...let's see... Floating in the ocean completely out of reach of all worries and stress... Mmm... What's not to love? I think the problem for me is that there's always something we need more than I "need" that cruise. If money were no object or if I won a trip? Rock concert or no rock concert, I'm in! :sunny:
I'd rather ride on water than ride on a plane, so shoot yeah, I'd go! Where are you going, anyway?
This is kind of funny: my ex worked pretty high up for Princess Cruise Lines for several years and got cruises for $40. Yet, we never took one. I have yet to go on a cruise....
I wouldn't do well on a cruise where people just sit on the deck in the sun and eat... And I don't like games and sports so I think I'd go insane on a cruise - but - if it were a musical cruise like you are going on I'd probably manage just fine! Love Sarah Harmer. Have a wonderful time!!!
BNL!!! /jealous
That sounds like the grooviest cruise, ever. When I was younger, I imagined "cruise people" to be just like the ones on the commercials -- retired, shuffleboarding and wearing loud clothes. Later on, it was obviously for skinny tanned people who hung out by the side of the boat all day in those lounge chairs. I am neither of those types of "cruise people", but I have been wanting to take one, lately. So, I figure, cruises are really for everybody, regardless of age or skinniness. I want to go exploring offshore and sit in the hot tub in the suite, plus eat.
Just saw the Titanic exhibit 2 weeks ago, and that has dimmed my enthusiasm, slightly.
Have a great time !!!!!!
Oh, man. Just looked at the link, and even more jealous of overjoyed for you.
I'm not a cruise person. I'm a "get in the car and start driving with a vague idea of things I'd like to see, but if the road takes me someplace else that's grand" sort of person. Cruise doesn't sound that fun to me because it dictates your schedule so severely to you... and because of that whole "water" thing, which tends to kind of freak me out. Buuuuut if someone said, '"hey, you get to go on a cruise for free," I would go. The most exciting thing to me would be the ports or stops or whatever... there are so many places I would love to see but am a little bit afraid to spend much time in due to international tension or language issues. If the cruise stopped along the Meditteranean I'd be pretty excited. Or Australia and New Zealand - although I'd be frustrated if I couldn't spend a lot of time there. I think that would be the worst of it... stopping in these amazing places, but not having the choice to stay for a long time if I wanted.
have lots and lots of fun!!! xoxoxo
Had my children not been too young to be allowed on-ship, I would have accepted the invitation from my sister-in-law and her grown kids to the Antarctic wildlife cruise two Decembers ago. And had I been invited (ahem
), I would have accompanied the family of my 10-year-old's best friend on the 'rock cruise' they just took in the Caribbean. Short of TOTALLY exotic locales or friends I know well -- it's not my cup of tea. But this does sound TOTALLY COOL. Have a great time!!
I'd go on that cruise in a hot second. I've only been on one other--to Mexico with my daughter and my mother. We had a great time, and I'd like to cruise again. I hope you have a BLAST!!!
I'm not really a cruise person myself. But only because I'm not sure I could stand only seeing ocean all around me. I want to see land. But I also try not to let fear rule my life, so if offered a free cruise, I think I would go and I think it would probably be great, and I know I would looove the excursion part! I know a lot of ppl who go on them and they all love it. So have a great time!!
My husband and I went on a cruise several years ago and I would go again in a heartbeat!!! You will have a great time!!!
Chris
Did two long cruises but cannot say as I enjoyed them that much. Probably a little noisier then rock concerts with the afterburners and catapults and what not.
Yeah I might go on another, but it would have to be quiet!
You TAGGED me!
I think this sounds wonderful. I've never been on a cruise but it seems like it'd be a lot of fun. And anyone as talented and gorgeous as you is bound to have the time of her life. Go YOU!:goodjob:
being I have a fear of the ocean and get sea sick...I would never do it...but I hope you have a great time!
sweet wishes, Clara

Everyone I know who has been on a cruise keeps talking about the food, the food, and the food.
A cruise person is anyone who has looked out the window in January at freezing rain and gale-force winds and realized that they would rather it were July, "rather" being and example of extreme rhetorical understatement.
sounds like a great time- Dh would only go if it were paid for by somebody else or up into Alaska and areas very cold! So.. Have a blast on your cruise! :sunny:
I'd Cruise..FOR SURE!
